Hop on the Métro
This apartment is located
between two métro stops,
and is about a 3 minute walk
to either. At Pigalle just
down the street are both
Métro Lines 2 & 12. The 2
line
heads west before
curving south to the Champs
Élysees. In the other
direction, it drops you at the
foot of Pere Lachaise
cemetery.
The 12 line will
take you the Place de
Concorde, then across to the
Left Bank with stops at the
Musée d’Orsay and St.
Germain.

Don't Miss the Bus
We recommend using one of
these six super bus lines.
Two terminate at Place
Pigalle just 3 minutes down
rue Houdon.
The 67 bus
winds down to the Seine and
stops at the Louvre before
continuing past the Ile de la
Cite to the Hotel de Ville.
Finally, it crosses the Ile St-
Louis before winding
through the Latin Quarter.
The Montmartrobus is a
small electric bus that winds
delightfully up and around
Montmartre.
Four additional lines leave
around Place de Clichy,
about a 10-minute walk
from the apartment. Take
the 68 bus south on a direct
route to the Opéra Garnier,
across the river and to a stop
that drops you within yards
of Musée d’Orsay. Hop on
the 95 bus and hop off at the
Louvre .
The 30 bus will take
you west along Parc de
Monceau before stopping at
the edge of the Arc de
Triomphe. A bit farther
south, the 30 takes you to
Trocadero near the Eiffel
Tower.
Meet the Owners
This bright and airy retreat is
owned by Marvin & Trish
who retired five years ago
and traveled the world. They
finally settled in Paris,
refreshed the flat entirely
and, while still traveling
extensively, use it as their
primary residence. They
splurged on some very
special rosewood furniture
and hope to share the
apartment with those who
will love and appreciate it as
much as they do. They
welcome you into there
home and hope you come to
love Montmartre and their
very special quartier
Abbesses.
The Apartment:

Lovingly renovated during
the past two years, this
large, light-filled apartment is
filled with historical charm
but equipped with all
modern conveniences,
making it the perfect fit for a
long or short-term stay. This
apartment, located in a very
quiet landscaped courtyard,
is a walk-up three flights of a
very well-maintained
building, which dates from
1855. As you open the door
to this very cheerful
apartment it will stun you
with its ample sunlight. The
kitchen to the left has all
new appliances including a
gas stove plus a washing
machine for all your laundry.
To the right, you have the
huge, bright living and dining
rooms, which have been
opened and combined
providing nearly 285 square
feet for lounging and
entertaining! The dining
table can seat four to six.
The living room has lovely
rosewood furniture, as well
as a deluxe sofa bed that will
sleep two in complete
comfort. Curtains partition
the area for privacy. At the
head of the hallway is the
separate WC. At the end is
the bathroom. You'll find
two sinks and a large
comfortable bathtub with
shower above. The bedroom
features a comfortable
queen-size bed where you
will rest in complete quiet
separated from the other
rooms of the apartment, and
magically away from the
sounds of the city. When
you wake in the morning to
the sounds of birds you will
believe you are in a country
retreat, rather than close to
the heart of Paris!  Everyone
will make many friends in
the large, safely private
courtyard where you are
welcome to have outdoor
meals.

If you're traveling with
kids
:
This is a wonderful
apartment for families with
or without children.  The
neighbors will greet you with
a friendly “bonjour”. The
immediate neighborhood of
Abbesses is filled with
families using the local parks
and the beautiful Parisian
carousel just around the
corner in the Place
Abbesses. Or take a 20-
minute walk to the glorious
and gigantic Parc Monceau
near the edge of the 18th.
You'll find a kids' play area
to rival any you've seen in
US parks or elsewhere.
In the Neighborhood:
The neighborhood (located
in Paris' 18th
arrondissement) is known as
Les Abbesses and has a
historical village-like
atmosphere where you will
find lively outdoor markets
and hidden quiet streets.
You'll find everything Paris
is known for and more in
this “village in a city”;
boulangeries – nine close by
– fromageries, cozy
neighborhood restaurants
and outdoor cafés, adorable
boutiques and galleries, all
within a few minutes walk.
Cinema 28, a classic movie
theater designed by Jean
Cocteau is a real treat.
Explore the butte with its
many lanes and stairways.
Extensive music collection
There is a full stereo system
built into the computer with
an extensive collection of
over 100 hours of music.
While focused on classical
and jazz music, there is also
a wide selection of pop –
both French and other –
show tunes, etc.
14 rue Houdon
All of Paris is literally at
your feet!
The apartment is located
between two distinct and
very special neighborhoods
or “quartiers”
Montmartre, specifically
the quartier of Abbesses is
just up the street.  Walk up
to the corner.  You can go
in any direction and its
magic!
Go to your left for all of
our wonderful
neighborhood shops and
cafés; the bank and the
post office. After exploring
the epicieries, fromageries,
boulangeries, boucheries
and the many cafés on rue
des Abbesses, turn left onto
rue Lepic for even more.
If you have seen the
wonderful quintessential
French film “Amelie” you
will recognize many of the
local sights.  The area is
one of magic at all times:
on Saturdays when it seems
everyone in Montmartre is
shopping; Sundays when
the streets are closed to
traffic and French
accordion music wafts out
from the cafés; indeed at
anytime.  Sit in the cafés
and watch the passing
crowds.
A good movie?  Studio 28
at 10 rue Tholoze, just off
rue des Abbesses is a real
treat.  All the films are
shown in the original
format with French
subtitles when needed.
The theater was designed
by Jean Cocteau and is the
oldest continually operating
cinema in Paris.  If you
don’t want to stand in line,
just go to the café inside
and have a drink or a
pastry.  They will wave
you into the theater when
the film starts. http://www.
cinemastudio28.com/ check
“programmes et horares”,
then “Pour imprimer le
programme cliquez ici” for
the latest film listing.

Below and parallel to rue
des Abbesses, stretching
from rue Lepic back to our
own rue Houdon is the
small lane, rue Véron.  It’s
a bit of a secret, with its
small cafés, bars, shops and
ateliers.  Don’t miss it.  It’s
especially in character late
on a misty night when the
cobble stones glow and the
“ladies” of the night come
out”.

Go straight will take you up
to the top of the Butte
Montmartre and the
famous Basilque du Sacre-
Coeur. Wander the rues!

Turn right and in a short
while you will be in the
“tissues” area where the
colorful shops sell fabrics
of all kinds – and for some
reason Middle Eastern belly
dancing costumes.  Beyond
is the Goutte d’O.r  This
fascinating area, the
location of many of Zola’s
nineteenth century novels is
largely populated by
immigrants from France’s
former African colonies.
The Saturday market is one
of the most fascinating in
Paris.
One block to the east is rue
des Martyrs.  This is the
rue that St. Denis marched
in the third century carrying
his own head!  It is still one
of the most colorful rues in
Paris equaling rue des
Abbesses and rue Lepic in
its selection of shops and
cafés.
